2010 - 2011 CABINET
Susan Yu, Chair
Susan is a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist in the RF Engineering department at TELUS. In the past, she has been actively involved as in various non-profit Environmental and Children's groups. Aside from New Leaders, she is the President of TSCC1495, and run marathons. Susan has a B.Sc. Honours in Environmental Geography from Queen's University, a Post-Diploma in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College, as well as an Advanced Diploma in GIS from BC Institute of Technology.
Bjoern Burkhardt
Bjoern is a Sales and Leasing Consultant at Mercedes-Benz Midtown. He came to Toronto in 2005 after finishing a sales trainee program at Mercedes-Benz in Germany. Bjoern graduated from the University of Co-operative Education in Stuttgart, Germany, with a B.A. degree in commerce. Previously, he has volunteered in a school and daycare facility for handicapped children.
Alvin Lau
Alvin is currently an Associate with CIBC's Leveraged Finance group, and previously worked as an Analyst at TD Commercial Banking. Alvin graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, and is currently pursuing his CFA designation. He has volunteered with several non-profit organizations in the past, most recently with TRIEC and The Learning Partnership.
Simon Leith
Simon Leith is currently studying law at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. Prior to attending law school, Simon was a Senior Associate in the Corporate Tax practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Simon graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business and also holds a Chartered Accountant (CA) designation. Simon has volunteered with several other charities in the past, including the Free Income Tax Clinic, London Minor Hockey Association, and Osgoode Business Law Clinic.
Dr. Roxana Sufan, Director of Finance
Roxana is a Clinical Scientist in oncology at Boehringer Ingelheim Canada Ltd., running clinical trials to develop new anti-cancer therapeutics. She received her PhD in Molecular Oncology from the University of Toronto. Roxana’s appreciation for the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre developed early during her undergraduate degree, when she was a Summer Research Student at the Sunnybrook Research Institute. She has volunteered with several other organizations in the past, including Let’s Talk Science, UofT oUTreach and Prostate Cancer Canada.
Nathan Tam
Nathan is currently an Associate with Onex Corporation. He has previously worked in the investment banking divisions at Morgan Stanley and RBC Capital Markets. Nathan also founded The Saryrn Platinum Connection, a successful start-up company focused on trading virtual assets on online multiplayer games. In the past, Nathan has volunteered his time with Junior Achievement, Rick Hansen Foundation and supports various other organizations. Nathan graduated as an Ivey Scholar with Distinction from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he received his H.B.A. – Honors Business Administration.
Jaclyn UyHam
Jaclyn is currently an investment banking Associate at UBS, in the Global Industrials Group. She graduated as an Ivey Scholar with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business. Jaclyn also serves as an executive of Young Canadians in Finance, a leading mentoring and learning network for young Canadians interested in pursuing a career in finance, and previously volunteered as a Kid Coach with Future Possibilities for Kids.
Jaime Verk
Jaime Verk is a freelance creative marketing consultant and entrepreneur. Her company Jlove designs specializes in branding, graphic and concept design. She received a B.F.A in fine arts from Concordia University, and attended Humber College for advertising and graphic design. Jaime is also a food blogger and educator. Recently she has been added to the roster of writers at foodbuzz.com as a featured publisher. Jaime is very excited for the launch of her new company called The Fooding Co this September. She is extremely passionate about philanthropy and has helped launch The Nanny Angel Network - a charity that provides support to mothers who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. In the past Jaime has donated her art works to various charities around the city including Baycrest Center for Geriatric Care and Ve'ahavta Organization. She has also conceptualized fundraising events for CORE Toronto as well as The New Leaders.
Jamie Wong
Jamie is currently a Senior Associate with KPMG LLP in Toronto. She specializes in the area of Transaction Advisory Services. She has previously worked in KPMG Audit in both the Financial Institutions and Enterprise practices. Jamie graduated on the Dean's List from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, and is currently pursuing her Chartered Accountant designation. Jamie has been involved in several volunteer initiatives in the past, most recently with the Free Income Tax Clinic and the Good Beginnings program with the Victoria Order of Nurses.
