New Leaders of Sunnybrook Foundation hosted Muse 07 on Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Living up to the event’s promise of “Art for Life,” the silent art auction raised over $28,000 for Emergency and Trauma at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Honoured guests Teresa Korogyi, Patient Care Manager, and Dr. Jeffrey Tyberg, Chief, Department of Emergency Services, were on hand to mix and mingle with volunteers, guests and artists, thanking everyone for their support of the exciting transformation of Sunnybrook’s Emergency and Trauma Unit.

More than 70 pieces of art were on display in the chic urban environment of Lot 332, at the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District. Guests sampled hors d’oeuvres and wine as they lingered over generous donations by some of Toronto’s most imaginative and innovative artists. Their contributions were adjudicated by noted Toronto gallerists Stephen Bulger and Marcia Rafelman, who chose winners and honourable mentions in four categories. Stephen and Marcia admired the impressive quality of all of the submissions, but ultimately chose the following winners: Jennifer McGregor, My Dad’s best friend (Painting); Sarah Jean Green, Growing Old (Photography); Kim Drosdick, Untitled (Jewellery); and Yvonne Koo, Raspberry Fool/Pink Tartan (Sculpture/Mixed Media). New Leaders congratulates them, and gratefully thanks all of the talented creators who offered their pieces to Muse 07. Sponsors, led by Platinum donor Kelly, Greenway, Bruce, and invited guests from Sunnybrook enjoyed access to the VIP lounge. As DJ Darqangelle laid down a sophisticated musical background, VIPs previewed the evening’s art and chatted with Sunnybrook staff, event volunteers and New Leaders members. In the main room, the Magen Boys effortlessly read the crowd, providing a warm and energizing ambience. The kindness of these entertainers and of the host of benefactors who sponsored Muse 07 made for a truly memorable and successful night. New Leaders is deeply appreciative of their contributions.

Finally, New Leaders wishes to thank an exceptional crew of volunteers, whose energy and enthusiasm enlivened the evening. Volunteers made every aspect of the event possible, from set-up to wrap-up. We hope that all of you had as much fun at Muse 07 as we did, and that we’ll see you again next year!
